Since owning my first ever Kia which was a second hand Kia Sorento, I have become some what of a fanatic, as a result my wife and two teenagers, all own Kias. I am also a Mechanic who worked at a Hayes MOT and Service garage, so I like to think I know what I’m talking about when it comes to cars. Kia is a well-regarded automobile maker which is based in South Korea. Hyundai Motor Group have part ownership of Kia and together they have formed a great team who have and continue to design some brilliant cars. Kia has been involved in vehicle manufacturing since it was founded in 1944 with the name Kyungsung Precision Industry. They started out as a steel tubing and bicycle parts manufacturer before changing their name to Kia in 1952.

Kia means “rising out of Asia”, and this is what they did in 1992 when they opened their first ever factory in the US. Since then Kia has expanded throughout America and export to the rest of the world. Hyundai took 51% of Kia in 1998 after a bidding war with previous owners Ford, since then Hyundai’s stake has been reduced to less than 50%.

Since their expansion, Kia have began focusing more upon their European market, offering a more than substantial model range. They currently offer the Kia Rio, Venga, Soul, Cee’d, Cee’d SW, Pro Cee’d, Picanto, Sorento, Optima, Carens, Sportage and the Sedona; Click here to see the full range. One thing worth mentioning is that all models in Kia’s range come with a market-leading seven-year warranty unless of course you are buying a used Kia, though don’t let this put you off buying a used Kia as you can get some great bargains.
